  • The Brain and Neuroplasticity

Norman Doidge, author of The Brain That Changes Itself, believes that the idea of neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to change itself – is the most revolutionary new understanding of the brain in 400 years.

The brain is able to change how it functions and to change its own structure. We are not limited to the brain we have when we reach adulthood, as was believed for hundreds of years.

The video below shows the eight minutes of a program featuring Dr. Doidge, produced by Slow TV in Australia.

What does this have to do with neurofeedback? Your brain’s neuroplasticity, it’s ability to change itself, is integral to the effectiveness of neurofeedback training. With NeurOptimal® neurofeedback, the system I use, your central nervous system (your brain and spinal cord) is given feedback when it is about to make a shift in state that reflects a maladaptive learned or inherited response to stress (loss of focus, anxiety, obsessive thinking, to give a few examples). The brain comes back to the presence moment, assesses for safety (my office is very safe), and relaxes. Over time, this becomes more and more the default way of operating.  And the life of you, the client, is transformed.
