When you come for a NeurOptimal® neurofeedback session you’ll be sitting in a comfortable chair watching a moving graphic (or you can close your eyes). You’ll be listening to music composed for NeurOptima® by Grammy award winning composer and producer Jeff Bova.
There will be very brief pauses in the music – this is the system giving your brain the opportunity to see what it is doing moment to moment.
What do you do?
Not much – consciously. You’ll have sensors on your ears and head (five altogether). The sensors are there to transmit information to the NeurOptimal® system about the electrical activity of your brain. Whenever your brain is shifting from one phase state to another, the pauses in the music happen. This change in the environment brings your brain back to the present moment, where it can observe its own activity with an immediacy that doesn’t happen anywhere else. Your central nervous system (the CNS – your brain and spinal cord) will use this information to re-normalize itself, to increase the flexibility and resilience of your system.
Again, there’s nothing to do consciously. Your brain will do it for you. Your CNS is masterful at taking in information and using it on your behalf. This is all below the level of conscious awareness. In the sessions your brain will be getting information about how it operates. It will learn from that and it will use the learning well.
Neurofeedback – What to Expect
How does this translate to your life? That’s wonderfully unique to each individual. It may mean improved sleep, better stress management, lightened mood, more focus. It’s the central nervous system, “the captain of the ship.” Your brain will use the training in the way that is right for you.
