  • This is Your Brain on Sugar

bigstock-Chocolate-Chip-Cookies-548335A recent UCLA science article, This is Your Brain on Sugar, talks about the results of  research into the effects of diet on the brain. It starts with this sentence:

Attention, college students cramming between midterms and finals: Binging on soda and sweets for as little as six weeks may make you stupid.

A steady diet of the high fructose corn syrup so prevalent in snack foods and soft drinks – and popular with students – was shown to hamper memory and learning. The good news is that this can be countered by adding Omega 3s to your diet.

But, really, shouldn’t we all eat less sugars, not just try to balance the bad stuff with the good stuff.

Here’s another bit of good news: If you train yourself away from refined sugar, natural sugars will start to taste sweeter and even more delicious. I know this from making the change myself.
