Sleep and peak performance
I’m always happy when I see popular media publicizing the value of a good night’s sleep. This Huffington Post article is titled 14 Highly Successful People Who Prioritize A Good Night’s Sleep.
All of the people mentioned excel at what they do. Sleep and peak performance go hand in hand. I think you’ll enjoy reading the article. You have to be very far off the grid indeed to not recognize most of the 14 people. Here’s some of what the article said about the value of sleep:
During sleep, the brain’s waste removal system is 10 times more active than during wakefulness, literally restoring the mind for the day ahead. While it’s taking out the trash, so to speak, the body works to repair brain cells, reinforce new memories, and even learn new motor skills. Logging enough hours between the sheets each night also does wonders for helping our bodies relieve stress, fight inflammation, maintain healthy body fat levels and ultimately live longer.
Pretty impressive list, isn’t it? The article goes on to say that, despite all of the evidence testifying to the value of sleep, more than half of Americans are not getting enough.
If it’s just that you’re not allowing yourself enough time in your bed, I urge you to rethink your priorities. I promise you, you will not become less productive if you get more sleep. Things that are important to you, whether it’s your job, your golf game, your relationships, I’m betting you’ll see improvements in all of them when you start getting enough sleep.
Neurofeedback for sleep management
If time allotted to sleep isn’t the problem and insomnia or stress-related sleep problems is then I recommend you find a neurofeedback trainer. Many sleep disorders respond to neurofeedback. It’s very common for improvements in sleep to be the first place change occurs. If you’re in the New York City area, please contact us. You can also search the NeurOptimal® Find a Trainer data base. NeurOptimal® Dynamical Neurofeedback® is the state of the art system we use at New York Neurofeedback.
